Petitions Filed Requesting the Imposition of Antidumping and Countervailing Duties on Imports of Vanillin from the People’s Republic of China

Case Summary

On June 6, 2024, Solvay USA LLC filed petitions for the imposition of antidumping and countervailing duties on the imports of Vanillin from the People’s Republic of China. The petition alleges a dumping margin of 520.08% and 551.06% for vanillin and ethylvanillin, respectively. The petition identifies certain foreign producers/exporters and U.S. importers of the investigated product.

The product covered by this petition is vanillin, with the molecular C8H8O3 or C9H10O3. For purposes of this investigation, vanillin consists of natural vanillin, synthetic vanillin (also known as 4-Hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde), bio-sourced synthetic vanillin (“biovanillin”), and ethylvanillin (also known as 3-Ethoxy-4-hydroxybenzaldehyde). The petition provides additional detailed scope description and specific product exclusions.

The projected date of International Trade Commission’s Preliminary Conference is June 26, 2024. The earliest theoretical date for retroactive suspension of liquidation for AD is August 14, 2024; CVD is June 25, 2024.
